Ankle Pain

Your ankles are important to daily functions and help support many of your daily functions. When you’re dealing with ankle pain, it can be difficult to properly function, and you might find yourself having to miss out on some of your favorite events. There are many different causes of ankle pain, and you should never ignore your pain. It’s important to understand what could cause your ankle pain and how it can be treated.

Dealing With Ankle Pain

Ankle pain can present in different ways, and you need to be able to identify your symptoms so that your podiatrist can figure out what you might be dealing with. Ankle pain can vary in severity and come with different types of symptoms. The most common causes of ankle pain include:

  • Bursitis
  • Fractures
  • Ankle sprains
  • Tendonitis
  • Arthritis
  • Gout

Your doctor will examine your pain and check for issues like swelling or bruising. They’ll ask some questions to determine exactly what you might be dealing with. Often, the easiest way to relieve your ankle pain is through at-home methods. If you’re dealing with swelling, you can elevate your ankle to help reduce that.

Our podiatrist may also recommend taking over-the-counter pain medications to relieve pain and using a compression bandage to help deal with inflammation. You may also need to reduce the amount of weight you put on your ankle and use a brace or splint to stabilize the ankle. Physical therapy can help strengthen the muscles and lead you to recovery in no time.

In severe cases, you may need surgery to correct certain issues.
